Synchronized Skating Judges Clinic

Are you interested in becoming a Synchronized Skating Judge?  The process is really easy and the results are a lot of fun!

NB, PEI and NS Skate Canada Sections are looking for individuals who would like to train to become a Novice Level Synchronized Skating Judge.  A two-day training clinic will be organized at the Byron Dobson Arena in Riverview, NB on Saturday, Oct. 20th and 21st, 2012.  Ideal candidates are those individuals who have skated on synchronized teams and have some knowledge of this discipline of skating.  However, all those interested are invited to attend.  Candidates must  be 16 years of age and must have passed a minimum of two Junior Bronze tests.  (i.e. Dance, Skills, FreeSkate – 2 parts)

The clinic will focus on the process of becoming a judge, what steps are needed to attain the first promotion to Novice Level, a look at the Skate Canada structure for synchronized skating, requirements at each of the re-organized levels, how to judge each of the elements and how to assign GOEs (Grade of Execution) and Program Component scores.  There will ample opportunity to practice judging through video trial judging.  There is a video exam as part of the clinic and there is a take-home written exam that needs to be completed at your leisure and returned to the Section Office to be corrected.  Then one needs to officially trial judge three events at the Novice level or lower.  If you are successful in all of the above you will receive a promotion to Novice Judge.

Trial judging opportunities will be discussed at the seminar.

We will be covering expenses - please contact for more information.

If you are interested in attending such a clinic, please contact Ashley Stokes, NB Synchro Chair at synchro@skatenb.org or (506) 227-2393 by October 9th.  Please forward this to anyone you think may be interested.
